With So Many Class Options at DEFINE, You Can Keep Your Workout Fresh, Fun, & Effective!

I am a runner. I always have been, and as far as I know and hope, I always will be!  Running completes me like no other workout. But as much as I love to lace up my kicks, there are other activities I must do in order to keep my body healthy. In fact, what is running notorious for? Yep…injuries.

This is how I found DEFINE more than 5 years ago. I was looking for a cross training element that would provide strength and flexibility components to help me improve my performance and range of motion. This was back when DEFINE was only a barre studio and offered the body class for strength as well as the mind class for lengthening over-trained muscles.

Not only did my running improve, but I also fell in love with the community and culture. A few months later, I found myself teaching this method because I believed so strongly in it and the results it produced.

Enter DEFINE rev.

I didn’t think more cardio would help my already overworked cardiovascular engine. As DEFINE opened the West University location in May of 2012, rev took off and you couldn’t help but to jump on board.

That is when I got really fast on the road. I don’t mean Olympic hopeful fast, fast by any professional, or even amateur standards… but I mean, fast for me!

So I had the strength component from body, the lengthening component from mind, and the extra endurance component from rev. All the while, I was staying injury free and gaining speed!

Since that time, we have incorporated yoga, hammock, and most recently DEFINE BOUNCE to our schedule. I can honestly say I do every format as much as my schedule allows.

I aim for:

  • 2 DEFINE BODY classes
  • 1 lengthening class (DEFINE YOGA, DEFINE HAMMOCK, or DEFINE MIND)
  • 2 cardio based classes (either DEFINE REVOLUTION or DEFINE BOUNCE)

I know this may be excessive to many people, but you have to ask yourself, “What are my goals?” Is it to feel good? Is it to look good? For me, it’s to stay healthy so I can continue to do the activities I enjoy—and to do them well.

Never will I have the time to take every single class I want to take, instruct classes, train new instructors, run a household, and/or engage in my passion of running. The point is with the time I do have, I have options and mixing it up is great for the body, as well as the mind.

What an innovative genius Henry Richardson, founder of DEFINE, is. He is the male version of Madonna – reinventing himself to stay relevant in a world where fitness trends change faster than the fastest rhythm jog. Everything he creates starts with 3 questions.

  1. Is it safe?
  2. Is it effective?
  3. Can you explain it well?

The answer is yes! All classes meet the criteria and they just so happen to take place under one roof!

The running? I am on my own there. And I am fine with that.
