My partner and I have a four-year-old son.  His name is Cameron.  Cameron, like most children, has an innate ability to express himself. At this point in his four-year-old existence, Cameron expresses himself through planes, trains, and automobiles. We have not only jumped on “board,” we have become newfound transportation fans because we see how his involvement with these toys gives him pure joy.

IMG_8447Watching Cameron take time to create an airport, reenacting the sounds of an airplane, while meticulously giving each plane a name, gives him a sense of fulfillment and wholeness.  As someone who daily thinks about my own personal sense of expression and feeling of wholeness, I have looked at Cameron as a reminder that life is about reflecting upon, as well as, discovering what gives us real fulfillment.

At DEFINE we care about the whole person. Our mission is to educate people on how to become their absolute best. We believe that physical strength, length and balance impact both states of mind and being. We create an atmosphere that inspires results, fosters community and gives back to others in order to achieve sustainable health and happiness. We offer three main styles of classes plus special programs like DEFINE foods and DEFINE life as a way to be a part of the healthy journey of the whole person.

This summer I have been traveling almost every week. Although I am missing our Houston clients as well as general consistency, I have had an opportunity to work more in depth on our DEFINE life program. Meditation, ayurveda, goal setting, and so much more is all a part of the DEFINE life program. This work has given so much joy, and I can’t wait to provide additional avenues in which we can educate our clients on becoming their absolute best.

As I travel, it is abundantly clear that health is something that we must work towards. What is truly healthy has been hijacked with mixed marketing messages of “all natural” or “healthy snack.”  It is no wonder most people have no clue what to eat. As a Facebook user, I am the first to praise its convenience of connecting and the channel of communication. However, how many of us feel amazing after being on Facebook? A recent study in the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology linked Facebook to feelings of depression, low self-esteem, and jealousy. With the amount of mixed messages we see on a day-to-day basis, it takes a lot of conscious effort to live in a way that leaves us fulfilled, joyful, and whole.  So much work, that I would say most of us are failing.

So where does that leave us?  It leaves us asking some very rudimental questions that may require you to do some major reflection. What gives you absolute joy? Think back on when you were a child.  What gave you that sense of fulfillment?  I loved going and visiting my grandparents farm in Northern Louisiana.  We would ride in the back of my grandfather’s truck, singing songs, spending time with my grandparents, aunts & uncles, and cousins.  We had no electronic games, no television until after supper (I never knew how Southern I truly was!)  We simply had fun and connected with people.

I have found a job that I love because I get to combine my two favorite passions:  health and people. I can honestly say that I am in one of the happiest places in my life. I have a partner, a son, a career I love, and the best clients in the world, under a brand that takes the whole person’s long-term health as it’s main priority.  We use the word educate in our mission because we want to be a part of this life-long journey of exploring better health and a better you.

Just like I have been encouraging Cameron to be himself, I am asking you to do that same thing. Take care of yourself by doing what you love. Discover your best self through practices that will lead to long-term wellness. In our industry, we see a lot of fitness ideas come into the market. Be sure to select what is going to take care of you for the long-term. This is your one body, your one mind, so treat it with care, challenge yourself daily, and enhance your health and wellness so you can fully express yourself and become the person you can become.

With love,
