DEFINE: What is YUPES?
Alex: YUPES stands for Young Professionals of Easter Seals. In case you don’t know; Easter Seals is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide exceptional services to ensure all people with disabilities or special needs and their families have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities. So YUPES is a fun way for young professionals to meet and socialize, while helping raise awareness and resources for Easter Seals. There are quarterly social events and ongoing volunteer opportunities with the agency. Net proceeds of all fundraising events directly benefit programs of Easter Seals.
DEFINE: How did you get involved and why do you want DEFINE to spread the word about YUPES?
Alex: My good friends Matt and Meredith Johnson asked me to be a part of YUPES. I have been on the board for two years, and it has been a truly enriching experience that has allowed me to give back to the community and have fun while helping a really great cause.I feel passionate about the work that Easter Seals does because Easter Seals provides a community for people with disabilities and their families; allowing them to have a somewhat normal life despite their circumstances. Through the tireless work of the gracious Easter Seals staff, families are provided with exceptional services that make such a difference in their lives. Being a part of this in a small way has been a wonderful experience for me. I am happy to be among the many young professionals in Houston who give of their time and resources to help a cause like Easter Seals.
